IUCN, the International Union for Conservation
of Nature and Natural resources, was founded in 1948 and brings together nearly
1,100 members (States, government agencies, NGOs and affiliates) and some
10,000 scientists and experts from 181 countries in a unique worldwide
partnership.

Its mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the
world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any
use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. Within the
framework of global conventions IUCN has helped over 75 countries to prepare
and implement national conservation and biodiversity strategies.

IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) covers twenty three
countries in the Horn of Africa, Eastern Africa, Southern Africa and the
Western Indian Ocean and is seeking a short term
Security Consultant.

Responsibilities





Develop
a Security risk policy for ESARO.
Conduct
an assessment of potential security risks and vulnerabilities on
identified sites where IUCN projects are being implemented, determine
appropriate management strategies and define the requisite security
controls to mitigate identified risks.
Develop
an emergency preparedness and crisis management plan for ESARO.
Train
staff in the Regional Office on the approved Security policy and general
crisis management.

Competencies


Advanced University degree in
Security Management, Law, Sociology, Development Studies, Public
Administration, Political Science or related fields.
At
least 10 years progressive professional experience in development and/or
humanitarian affairs with clear understanding of the social, economic and
political environments for the marginalized and/or transhumance
communities in Kenya. Knowledge and experience in specific security hot
spots in the Region will be an added advantage.
Field
experience involved with negotiation, interaction among different
stakeholders and coordination in post-conflict and/or crisis situations is
a must.
Team
leadership and conflict resolution skills.
